Vietnam Visa Guide for Indian Travellers

Dreaming of enjoying dramatic scenic beauty and buzzing food scenes? What you are searching for is a Vietnamese vacation! But what catches up to a lot of Indian travellers before the Vietnamese dream vacay is the visa documentation. There’s a surprisingly high number of questions when it comes to getting a Vietnamese Visa, for example, What are the visa requirements for Indians and so on? What type of visa does one need? How long does it take? What are the documents needed? The list goes on and on.

Let’s dive right into the hows and whats of a curated Vietnam visa guide for Indian travellers for an interesting Vietnamese holiday.

Do Indians Need A Visa for Vietnam in 2026?

Absolutely. Indian nationals do require a visa to enter Vietnam. The good news is that the entire Visa process is now easier than ever, all thanks to the e-visa system launched by Vietnam, which is open to all countries, including India.

And while we are on the topic of Vietnamese visas, there is a nuanced exception to note: the Phu Quoc Island. Phu Quoc Island is where Indian passport holders can get entry without a visa for up to 30 days. But the catch is, the moment you leave Phu Quoc to visit any other mainland, you will need a full visa. So, if you are wondering if the Vietnam visa is free for Indians, it is free only for Phu Quoc Island.

Tribe Travel tip: You can take a flight via Bangkok to Vietnam if you don't wish to apply for a visa.

How to get a Vietnam e-visa from India: A step-by-step Process

We have curated this Visa guide for Indian travellers so that you don’t have to figure the process on your own. Here is a quick step-by-step process to understand how to get the Vietnamese e-visa.

Step 1: Visit the official portal evisagov.vn, which is the official website for the Vietnamese government.

Step 2: Fill in the application forms with personal details, travel dates, and entry and exit checkpoints.

Step 3: Once done, you will need a scanned copy of your passport bio page and a recent passport-size photograph (35*45 mm, white background without spectacles)

Step 4: After submitting the form, pay the requested e-visa and processing fee for the respective documentation and verification. Keep your international credit or debit card handy for the same.

Step 5: Within 4-5 days, you will receive a soft copy of your e-visa. You are required to take a printout of this e-visa as it is required at immigration.

Tribe tip:  It’s best to apply for an e-visa 60 days before your departure date for the Vietnam holiday. Avoid using any third-party websites for your visa application that charge extra fees for the same service.

Are There Any Other Routes to Avail a Vietnam Visa for Indians?

While the most recommended and straightforward way to get a visa is through the Vietnam e-visa, there’s one more way with which you can get a Visa for Vietnam - Visa on Arrival.

Visa on Arrival - VOA

Available on major Vietnamese International Airports such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, the VOA requires a pre-arranged letter of approval from a Visa agency. Before the e-visa was launched, VOA used to be the choice of the majority. The only thing that you need to note about VOA is that it needs to be applied 24 hours prior to reaching Vietnam. But given the ease of application, the e-Visa is a much better option; as also highlighted in this visa guide for Indians.

Vietnam Land Border Entry Rules for E-Visa Holders

A Vietnam visa for Indian passport holders does not make you eligible to enter through all crossings/checkpoints. If you are an Indian citizen planning to enter Vietnam via land borders, you can do so with a designated entry point. Simply put, with your e-visa, while you may be allowed to enter via numerous international land borders, it will be possible only if the specific checkpoint is listed on your approved e-visa.
