Colosseum Roman Forum and Palatine Hill Walking Tour - Morning Tour, Language: English

Embark on a journey through time. Transport your mind to an era whose remnants still surround you to this very day. Learn about the incredible history and horrors of the Eternal City as you explore the centre of Ancient Rome. It is hard to imagine what these iconic landmarks would have looked like in their prime, but with the entrance to the archaeological site and complimentary headsets, you will gain a better understanding of the area with the help from your experienced and professional guide. Your guided 'Passeggiata' will include a visit to: - Colosseum The Colosseum is the world’s largest amphitheatre, built by the Romans in 80 AD. More than 50,000 people would have gathered here to watch gladiatorial contests and many other kinds of public spectacles. Known also as the Flavian, its name was appropriately given as it was built on the site where once stood a 115-foot-tall bronze statue of the emperor Colossus of Nero. Whilst visiting this giant amphitheatre, take some time to consider the discrimination in Roman society and the fate of the fighters in the gruesome blood sport at the gladiator’s playground. - Roman forum In its heyday, the Roman Forum was the very heart of the ancient world, crowded with people from all corners of the empire. From elections, public speeches, gladiator matches, and even criminal trials, it was from this very location that the Romans transformed civilisation. Your guided 'Passeggiata' will include a visit to; - Palatine Hill It is thought that this area is where it all began. In Rome there is a very fine line between myth and historical fact. According to Roman mythology, twin brothers Remus and Romulus were abandoned by their parents on the hill and discovered and nursed by a wolf before being found by a shepherd. Legend has it that when they became adults they decided to build a city where the wolf had found them. After quarrelling about the location, Remus was said to have been murdered by his brother, thus leaving Romulus as the founder of the city to which he gave his name. Over a hundred years ago archaeologist Rodolfo Lanciani, excavated a site on the hill and uncovered the remains of an Iron Age settlement dating back to 900 BC giving evidence to the existence of the early founders of Rome. Important information – There may be restrictions Due to the Colosseum’s reservation policy, the scheduled visiting hours cannot be modified. MANDATORY INFORMATION DURING THE BOOKING PROCESS: It is mandatory to provide details of all guests participating in this tour, including full names to ensure availability and access to the Colosseum. Tour to the Islands of Burano and Murano with Optional Stop at Torcello - 4.5-hour afternoon tour

These beautiful islands are known throughout the world for their picturesque scenery, handicraft, and history. Departing from the famous St. Mark’s Square by motorboat, the first stop is Murano, where you can see the antique art of making glass and lampworking. Murano has been famous for its glassmaking since the thirteenth century when the Venetian Republic ordered all glassmakers to leave the mainland because of fear of fire. Most settled in Murano and quickly became the most prominent citizens. The second island stop is Burano, known for its lacework and brightly colored homes. Your guide is happy to tell you all about the history of the area, including its visit by Leonardo da Vinci. If you select the 6-hour tour option , you will enjoy the third and last stop on the tour Torcello, a quiet and sparsely populated island. It is considered the oldest continuously populated region of Venice and once held the largest population of the Republic of Venice. Torcello was once more powerful even than Venice itself, due to the lagoon’s salt marshes that were Torcello’s economic backbone and its close trading and cultural links with Constantinople. The island has since fallen in fortune, but relics of its bygone glory remain, including the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in 639 and still containing stunning mosaics to this day. If you select the " 6 hours - Torcello Island and Lunch Included " option, the stop in Burano will be around 90 minutes and it includes lunch at Al Raspo de Uà Restaurant. If you select the 4.5-hour tour option, a visit to the Torcello is not included. Menu * • Pennette pasta with mixed fish or Fish Lasagne • Mixed fried fish or grilled fish • Mixed salad • Dessert of the day Drinks not included (to be paid on the spot) Kids Menu • Pasta with tomato sauce or pasta with ragout sauce • Fried cutlet Milanese type with French potatoes • Dessert of the day *Please note that the menu is subject to change without prior notice.
