Most people visiting Singapore have a day or two pencilled in for wildlife. What they do not always realise is that Mandai Wildlife Reserve is not just one park; it is an entire precinct in the north of the island, home to five wildlife parks, Exploria and Curiosity Cove, as well as a rainforest resort, all within easy reach of each other. Once you understand that, a single afternoon reserved for this wildlife experience starts to feel very minimal.
Mandai Wildlife Reserve is managed by Mandai Wildlife Group and covers more than 126 hectares of secondary rainforest. Under that one roof, you have the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders, Bird Paradise, and the two newest additions, Exploria and Curiosity Cove. Getting there from the city centre takes about 35 to 45 minutes. The best route is: take the MRT to Khatib station, then hop on the Mandai Khatib Shuttle (Bus 927) to 80 Mandai Lake Road.
If you have the time and means, adding a night at Banyan Tree Mandai turns this into a proper two-day nature trip, the kind that is genuinely hard to replicate anywhere else in Southeast Asia.
The easiest way to plan your Mandai visit is through the Mandai Explorer Pass on the Singapore Tourist Pass. Both bundles are rated 4.7 stars across over 9,000 reviews, cover 6 to 8 hours of experiences, and come with instant e-ticket delivery.
Tribe Travel Tip: Each park is a single-entry visit per pass, children under 3 get in free, and the Amazon River Quest boat ride at River Wonders costs an additional SGD 5 per person and needs to be booked separately.
The Zoo is where most people start, and it earns its reputation. The open-concept design means no traditional cages, just moats, water features, and natural barriers between you and over 2,800 animals from 300 species. The Fragile Forest biodome is worth slowing down for, where animals move freely around you rather than behind glass. The Frozen Tundra zone and the Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia exhibit are both worth the walk. If you are bringing children, add Rainforest Kidzworld to the plan and pack a spare set of clothes because they will need them.
Rainforest Wild Adventure
This is Mandai Wildlife Reserve's that feels most different from a conventional zoo visit. Built around the wildlife and ecosystems of the Asian rainforest, it runs through forest trails and naturalistic habitats that feel genuinely immersive. If you have already done the Zoo on a previous trip or simply want something less structured, this is the one to pick.
The world's first nocturnal wildlife park, and nothing has quite replicated the experience since it opened. Plan for around two hours, a guided tram ride through eight geographical zones, followed by four walking trails at your own pace. The Malayan tiger, giant flying squirrel, binturong, and one-horned rhinoceros are among the species you are likely to encounter. The Creatures of the Night show is worth staying for. Evening slots fill up quickly, so book ahead rather than risking it at the gate.
River Wonders
River Wonders takes you through eight of the world's major river ecosystems, the Amazon, Congo, Mekong, Ganges, Yangtze, Mississippi, Nile, and Murray, each distinct in how it is presented. The Giant Panda Forest draws the biggest crowds, and for good reason. Kai Kai and Jia Jia are reliably popular. Families should add the Amazon River Quest boat ride. It is a straightforward addition, and one most visitors are glad they did.
Bird Paradise replaced Jurong Bird Park in May 2023, and the difference is noticeable from the moment you walk in. Eight walk-through aviaries, including Lory Loft, Wings of Asia, Penguin Cove, and the African Waterfall Aviary, house over 3,500 birds across 400 species. The African Waterfall Aviary recreates a rainforest thunderstorm and is one of those moments that genuinely catches you off guard. The free-flight shows draw consistent crowds for a reason. Set aside at least three hours because most visitors find they want more.
Mandai Wildlife Reserve has added two new experiences, and both are worth knowing about before you plan your visit.
Exploria is an interactive nature discovery zone with forest trails, discovery stations, and guided wildlife encounters. It works best as part of a full Mandai day rather than a standalone visit, especially if you are travelling with younger children who want something more hands-on than a standard walk-through.
Curiosity Cove is built entirely for children aged 12 and under. The encounter zones, discovery stations, and wildlife storytelling are designed around how young children naturally explore, helping them stay engaged throughout the visit. If you've been to Mandai before and found the little ones losing interest by noon, this experience is designed with them in mind.
Both Curiosity Cove and Exploria are now bookable and are included with the Singapore Tourist Pass. If you plan to visit multiple Mandai attractions, booking them together can help you save up to 50% compared to purchasing individual tickets.
Mandai Wildlife Reserve is one of those places that genuinely earns its reputation. Whether you spend a full day across two or three parks or stretch it into an overnight stay at Banyan Tree Mandai, the experience holds up at every level for solo travellers, couples, and families alike.
Planning a visit is straightforward when you have the right support. Holiday Tribe takes the guesswork out of it, from selecting the right bundle to building a pass that gets you the best value for your itinerary. If you are putting together a Singapore holiday and want Mandai done properly, Holiday Tribe is the place to start.
