Osaka is Japan's third-largest city and is famous for its street food, historic castle, and waterfront views along Osaka Bay. It's also home to one of Asia's busiest theme parks. Universal Studios Japan opened on March 31, 2001, as the first Universal Studios park in Asia and is still a favorite today. The park will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2026, with events running until March 2027. Super Nintendo World now features the new Donkey Kong Country area, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is still a top highlight.
This guide covers everything you need to know about Universal Studios Japan ticket prices, Express Passes, top rides, the Harry Potter zone, and helpful tips for your visit.
The park sits on the Sakurajima waterfront in Osaka and is divided into several themed areas:
The park is great for adults, older kids, and families. Universal Wonderland is perfect for younger children, with attractions featuring Hello Kitty, Snoopy, and Sesame Street.
At USJ, the admission ticket is called a Studio Pass. There are three types to choose from.
Universal Studios Japan ticket prices change depending on the date and season. A 1-Day adult Studio Pass starts at about 8,200 yen on less busy days, but costs more on weekends and holidays.
Studio Pass Type | Who It Suits | Entry Time | Approx. Starting Price (Adult) |
1-Day | Most visitors | Full day | From ¥8,200 |
1.5-Day | Those with extra time | From 3 PM on day one, full access on day two | Varies by date |
2-Day | Those who want a relaxed visit | Two full days | Varies by date |
Tribe Travel Tip: The Universal Studios Japan ticket price for 1.5-Day and 2-Day passes varies by date. Check the official USJ website for the exact price on your visit date before booking.
Universal Studios Japan tickets go on sale in stages, usually a few weeks before the visit date. Popular days can sell out quickly, so it's best to book as soon as you know your travel dates.
A Studio Pass lets you enter the park and enjoy all the regular rides and areas.
Not included:
To visit Super Nintendo World, reserve a free timed entry using the official USJ app on your arrival day. Certain Universal Studios Japan Express Passes also include advance timed entry to Super Nintendo World.
Note: Standard Universal Studios Japan tickets do not allow re-entry once you exit the park.
The Universal Studios Japan Express Pass lets you skip lines at certain rides, but it is not a park entry ticket. You still need a Studio Pass to get into the park.
With an Express Pass, you can use a shorter line at selected rides instead of waiting in the regular queue.
Two main types are available:
Each pass comes with different ride combinations. Choose the one that includes the rides you want most.
Tribe Travel Tip: Every version of the Universal Studios Japan Express Pass includes guaranteed timed entry into Super Nintendo World. Your time slot is assigned at the time of booking. You cannot change it yourself.
Without an Express Pass, top rides at Universal Studios Japan can make you wait for 60 to 120 minutes or more. With one, you join a much shorter line.
Express Passes are sold in limited quantities. Book yours at least two weeks before your visit. Prices vary by date and pass type. Check the official USJ website for pricing on your visit date.
The Universal Studios Japan Express Pass is the best way to experience more rides in a single day.
Express Pass 4 | Express Pass 7 | |

Universal Studios Japan rides span many themed areas. Here are the main types you can try.
Tribe Travel Tip: Sesame Street 4-D Movie Magic and Shrek's 4-D Adventure both closed in January 2026. Confirm current attraction availability at the official website before your visit.

These rides are great if you love speed and excitement.

These Universal Studios Japan rides put you inside a story, not just on a track.

These are perfect for younger visitors or if you want a relaxing break between the bigger rides.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is one of the most popular parts of Universal Studios Japan. It brings Hogsmeade village to life, with Hogwarts Castle at its heart. The detailed streets, themed shops, and main attractions make it a must-see for many visitors.
Three things to do:
Rides in the Universal Studios Japan Harry Potter Zone:
Ride | Experience | Best For |
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey | Motion dark ride. Queue passes through Dumbledore's office and the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. No 3D glasses. | All visitors |
Flight of the Hippogriff | Outdoor coaster, lighter pace | Children |
Tribe Travel Tip: Universal Studios Japan Harry Potter ride queues are consistently long. The Express Pass is recommended for Forbidden Journey. Book it before your visit.
Planning ahead before your visit to Universal Studios Japan means you can enjoy more attractions and spend less time waiting in line.
When to Go:
On the Day:
To get there, take the JR Yumesaki Line from Nishikujo Station to Universal City Station. The park entrance is just a five-minute walk from the station.
Tribe Travel Tip: Guests are asked not to bring outside food or drinks into the park. Water and baby food are allowed, and you can talk to staff about any special dietary needs.
Universal Studios Japan is a park where planning ahead really pays off. Make sure you know your ticket options, get your Express Pass early, and pick your must-do rides before you go. The Harry Potter zone and Super Nintendo World can easily fill most of your day if you don't plan your time well.
With 25 years of history and new attractions like Donkey Kong Country, 2026 is a great time to visit Universal Studios Japan.
