The Philippines is made up of over 7,000 islands, though most travellers only ever see a handful of them. The water around places like Palawan and Siargao carries a shade of blue that's hard to describe until you've seen it yourself. For years, Indian travellers skipped past the Philippines not because of distance or cost, but because of the visa process, which used to involve extra paperwork, longer processing times, and more back and forth than most people wanted to deal with for a holiday. That's changed. Getting a Philippines visa for Indians is now one of the simpler parts of planning this trip. This guide has everything you need from documents to visa fees and the whole process explained step by step.
If you’re planning an escape to the Philippines for a short holiday, you won’t need one. But if you plan to stay longer than 2 weeks you’ll need to apply for a visa before you go.
In most cases, Indian nationals can now enter the Philippines without a visa in two situations:
Visa entry type | Stay duration | Who it’s for |
Standard visa-free entry | 14 days | All Indian passport holders travelling for tourism |
Extended visa-free entry | 30 days | Indians holding a valid, current visa or residence permit from the US, Japan, Australia, Canada, Schengen area, Singapore, or UK |
Tribe Travel Tip: These visa-free periods cannot be extended or changed to a longer stay after you arrive. Plan your holiday carefully instead of deciding as you go.
If you’re planning for a longer vacation, you’ll need a temporary visitor’s visa called a 9(a) visa. Here’s what you usually need to provide:
Tribe Travel Tip: There's currently no visa-on-arrival for Indians, so all your documents need to be arranged before you fly, not after you land.
Beyond the basic requirements above, the embassy may ask you for a few extras depending on your situation.
Tribe Travel Tip: Keep both digital and printed copies of every document. Immigration officers sometimes ask for physical paperwork even if you've already shown a scanned version.
If your plan is to stay longer than the free visa period, here are the visa fees you’ll need to pay depending on how long you stay:
Visa type and duration | Visa fees | Validity |
9(a) Single Entry | ₹3,840 | 3 months |
9(a) Multiple Entry | ₹7,680 | 6 months |
9(a) Multiple Entry | ₹11,520 | 1 year |
Tribe Travel Tip: The fee amount keeps changing and is non-refundable even if your application doesn't get approved, so make sure to cross-check the fees from https://evisa.gov.ph/ as well as your application and documents before submitting them.
If you do need the full visa, here's the process:
Tribe Travel Tip: Since there's no online e-visa route currently open to Indian applicants, this needs an in-person or authorised-agent submission, so count that into your holiday countdown.
If your escape fits within 14 days skip the visa paperwork altogether and use that time to actually plan the fun part.
Since the visa-free stay can't be extended once you're in the country, map out your islands and activities in advance so you're not rushing to cover everything.
At Holiday Tribe, we can help you build a Philippines itinerary around exactly the kind of vacation you want alongside visa assistance so all that's left for you to do is book your Philippines holiday
