Every few weeks, someone in the family group chat asks the same question before a Rajasthan holiday: will it be unbearably hot? It’s a fair concern. Udaipur’s weather can go from pleasant to harsh depending on the time of year, and choosing the right month can make all the difference, from how much you enjoy the lakes to what you pack. The good news is that Udaipur is usually more comfortable than most of Rajasthan, thanks to the Aravalli hills and its lakes. This guide explains Udaipur’s weather season by season, sharing real temperatures, crowd levels, and honest advice on the best times to visit, so you can plan your holiday with confidence.

What's the Weather in Udaipur Actually Like Through the Year?

In short, Udaipur has three distinct seasons, but only one is really challenging. The city is about 600 metres above sea level in the Aravalli range, which helps keep it cooler than places like Jaisalmer or Bikaner. Here’s what the Udaipur temperature is like throughout the year.

Once you look at the numbers, the pattern becomes clear. Let's go through each season and see how it affects your plans.

Summer in Udaipur: How Hot Does It Really Get?

Image

From April to June, the city gets truly hot. Daytime temperatures reach the high 30s and go over 40°C in May, which is the hottest month. Evenings by the water are still comfortable. Locals switch to early mornings and outings after sunset. If you want a good view, head up to Sajjangarh, the Monsoon Palace, at dawn before the sun gets too strong.

  • Temperature: Highs of 38 to 43°C in May and June; nights cooler at 25 to 27°C
  • Crowd & Prices: Off-season, so thinner crowds and lower room rates
  • What to Pack: Cotton layers, strong sunscreen, a hat, a refillable water bottle
  • Best For: Late planners who want quiet palaces and better value

Local tip: If you plan to visit the nearby hills, check the weather for Gogunda separately. Gogunda is about 35 km northwest and is where Maharana Pratap was crowned in 1572. It sits higher in the Aravalli hills, so mornings there can feel a bit cooler than in the city, even during peak summer.

Monsoon in Udaipur: Does the Rain Spoil the Plans?

Image

Actually, this is one of the best times to visit Udaipur, even though many people overlook it. Between July and September, rain comes in short, heavy bursts rather than lasting all day. The hills become lush and the lakes fill up, so the city looks beautiful. July sees the most rain. Although it gets more humid, the temperature drops to the low 30s. Sitting by the lake and enjoying pakoras in the drizzle is a favorite local tradition.

  • Temperature: Comfortable highs of 30 to 33°C; lows around 23 to 24°C
  • Crowd & Prices: Quiet, with good hotel value between showers
  • What to Pack: A light raincoat, quick-dry shoes, a compact umbrella
  • Best For: Couples and photographers who want full lakes and green hills

If you care most about the views, visit during the monsoon or just after. That’s when Fateh Sagar and Pichola lakes are full and look their best.

Winter in Udaipur: The Season Everyone Books

Image

This is the time of year most people talk about. From October to March, days are sunny and mild, nights get cool, and sightseeing is easy. November to February is especially nice, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures all day. In the evenings, the city comes alive, rooftop restaurants and lakeside cafes are at their best, and a sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola is a highlight. Since this is peak season, it’s a good idea to book early.

  • Temperature: Pleasant highs of 24 to 30°C; nights drop to 8 to 12°C, colder in December and January
  • Crowd & Prices: Busiest and priciest, with weddings and holidays filling hotels
  • What to Pack: Light woollens for evenings, a proper jacket for December nights
  • Best For: First-time visitors, families and honeymooners

What to Expect From Udaipur Weather in December

December is picture-perfect in Udaipur. Days are sunny, usually around 24 to 26°C, and nights get chilly, dropping to 8 to 10°C, so you’ll want a jacket if you’re by the water in the evening. It’s also the driest month, so you can count on clear skies for boat rides and rooftop dinners. One of the best things about December is the Shilpgram Festival, a ten-day crafts and folk fair held from 21 to 30 December near Fateh Sagar. You get to enjoy both culture and cool weather at the same time.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Udaipur?

Image

If you want a simple answer, the best time is from October to March, with November to February being ideal. Still, the best month really depends on what you’re looking for.

First-timers, families, honeymoons

Monsoon

Off-season quiet, lower rates

September is a smart time to visit. The monsoon is ending, there are fewer people around, and the landscape is still green before winter prices go up.

Pick the Right Month, and Udaipur Does the Rest

To put it simply, Udaipur’s weather is reliable as long as you pick the right month for your plans. Winter is great for comfort and festivals, monsoon brings full lakes and a peaceful vibe, and summer offers quiet streets and good value. Unlike most places in Rajasthan, Udaipur is a solid choice any time of year.
