The Three Tiers: What to Expect

Level 1: Main Pool and Falls

• This is the biggest and most dramatic tier, with a roughly 15-metre waterfall and the main swimming area.
• Most visitors come here for swimming and rafting. Raft hire is around PHP 300, while lockers cost about PHP 100.
• It gets busy from 10 AM and can be crowded by midday in peak season, so come early if you want better photos and fewer people.

Levels 2 and 3: Quieter Tiers

• Follow the path uphill from the main falls to reach these quieter levels. Level 2 has a smaller waterfall and shallower pool, while Level 3 is the quietest and needs a short climb.
• Both are included in your main ticket, but there are no rafts or food stalls here, so carry your own supplies.
• If you want some peace away from the crowds, Level 3 is worth the extra walk.

Note: Access to Levels 2 and 3 has been restricted for independent visitors since 2023 at various points. Confirm locally on arrival whether the hiking trail to upper tiers is open, as this changes without notice.

Canyoneering at Kawasan Falls: What Is It Actually Like?

Kawasan Falls canyoneering is an adventure through the Matutinao River that takes you through the Cebu jungle before ending at Kawasan Falls. Instead of simply walking to the waterfall, you follow the river, swimming through pools, climbing over rocks, sliding down natural chutes and jumping into deeper sections of the river.

• Where it starts: Upstream on the Matutinao River, not at Kawasan Falls itself.
• Where it ends: Kawasan Falls Level 1, where you can swim and relax after the adventure.
• How long it takes: Around 3 to 4 hours.
• What you do: Swim, climb, scramble over rocks, slide through natural rock chutes and jump into pools.
• Jumps: One 4-metre jump is mandatory, while around five or six others are optional and can reach roughly 10 metres.
• Safety gear: Your operator provides a life jacket, helmet, canyoning shoes and other required safety equipment.
• Guide: A guide stays with the group throughout the route.
• Important: The old 15 metre jump is no longer part of the experience due to safety concerns.

​Most tours depart from Moalboal. Book 1 to 2 days ahead in peak season (December to April), and confirm your operator is licensed.

How to Get to Kawasan Falls Badian, Cebu?

Reaching Kawasan Falls in Badian, Cebu is fairly straightforward, whether you are coming from Cebu City, Moalboal or Oslob. Moalboal is the closest popular base, making it the easiest option if you are already staying there.

From the main road, it's a 20 to 30 minute walk to the entrance along a concrete jungle path; no tricycles run this stretch.

When Should You Visit?

There are times when visiting Kawasan Falls offers more compelling experiences than any other time. During the dry season when the water is clear and the weather is clean, you may see the falls in its raw form.
