Is Dragon Bridge Worth Visiting? A Complete Travel Guide

When the sun sets in Da Nang, the city’s skyline transforms, thanks to one standout bridge. The Dragon Bridge crosses the Han River and looks like a golden dragon caught in flight. On weekend nights, it does something unique in Vietnam: it breathes fire. But should you change your plans just to see it? With big crowds, a brief show, and mixed opinions online, it’s a valid question. This guide covers show times and nearby places, so you can make your own decision.

Where Is Dragon Bridge Located?

Dragon Bridge is usually known as Cau Rong by the locals, and it is right in the centre of Da Nang. It links Hai Chau District, the city centre, to the Son Tra coastal area. The bridge runs along Nguyen Van Linh Street, crosses the Han River, and connects downtown with My Khe Beach and the road to the airport.

What is the history of the Dragon Bridge?

Although the bridge is quite new, it holds a special significance for the city.

  • The bridge opened on March 29, 2013, to mark the 38th anniversary of Da Nang's liberation.
  • A joint venture between the US-based Ammann & Whitney Consulting Engineers and the Louis Berger Group designed the bridge after winning a design competition.
  • Construction cost about 88 million USD, or roughly 1,500 billion VND.
  • The bridge is 666 meters long, making it the longest dragon-shaped bridge in the world.

The number 666 was chosen on purpose. In Vietnamese culture, it is connected to prosperity. The bridge was built to symbolise the city's rapid growth, not just to help with traffic.

Why Is Dragon Bridge So Special?

ImageThe bridge’s design is inspired by the Ly Dynasty dragon, which stands for strength, power, and good luck in Vietnamese folklore. Its head points toward the East Sea, symbolising hope for the city. At night, more than 2,500 LED lights change the bridge’s colour from blue to gold to red, so it almost never looks the same twice.

Travel Tribe Tip: If you can, visit on both a weekday and a weekend. On weeknights, you can enjoy the LED lights without the crowds. On weekends, you’ll get to see the full fire and water show.

When Does the Dragon Bridge Fire Show Take Place?

Most people look up the Dragon Bridge Da Nang show before they book their Holiday. The dragon's head at the east end of the bridge breathes fire, then sprays water to draw its visitors' attention. Best of all, you can watch the entire show for free.
