  • The Bottom Line

Ever wondered why tourists who visit Singapore during the day come back completely obsessed with it at night? What is it about this city that makes people rearrange their return flights just to squeeze in one more evening? Singapore after dark is a different country altogether, louder, warmer, more generous with its colours, and full of corners you won't find on any daytime map.

Whether you're after a bass-heavy dance floor, a rooftop drink with the skyline doing all the work, or a slow riverside evening with good food and zero agenda, Singapore’s Nightlife has figured out how to deliver all of it, sometimes within walking distance of each other.

1. Clarke Quay

image.pngIf you don't know where to start, start here. Clarke Quay is Singapore's most popular nightlife area, a strip of colourful bars and open-air restaurants running along the Singapore River. It's busy almost every night, easy to get to by MRT, and has something for everyone.

The crowd is young and mixed with students, backpackers, expats, and office workers, who all show up here. Happy hours run from 4 pm to 8 pm, and drinks are noticeably cheaper during that window, so arriving early is worth it.

Where to go:

  • Zouk: Singapore's most famous club. Three rooms playing EDM, house, and hip-hop. Fits 1,500 people and runs past 4 am with international DJs.
  • Attica: Themed nights and a more fashion-forward crowd.
  • Crazy Elephant: Live rock and blues if you'd rather hear a band than a DJ.

Tribe Travel Tip: Want something memorable? The G-Max Reverse Bungy is right here; it fires you 60 metres into the air at 200km/h. Completely optional, but very Clarke Quay.

2. Boat Quay

ImageEven though Boat Quay is a 10-minute walk from Clarke Quay along the river, it lets you witness a completely different side of Singapore nightlife. The bars are set inside old heritage shophouses, their lights reflecting off the water at night. The crowd here is pretty old. The pace is slower, and good for spending an entire evening in the city.

Where to go:

  • Harry's: Live jazz most nights, sports on TV, and quiz nights every Wednesday.
  • RedDot BrewHouse: Craft beer brewed on-site. Half indoors, half open-air.
  • The Secret Mermaid: Hidden inside the Capitol Theatre. American spirits, unusual cocktails, and very few tourists. Worth finding.

3. Marina Bay

ImageMarina Bay is Singapore's showpiece neighbourhood, and the bars here match the setting. Everything is sky-high: the venues, the prices, and the views. If you want to look out over the city from 200 metres up with a drink in hand, this is where you go.

Where to go:

  • Cé La Vi (Marina Bay Sands rooftop): The most famous rooftop bar in Singapore, ladies' nights on Wednesdays, Top 40 music, international crowd.
  • Level 33 (Financial Centre): Craft beer brewed in-house. Prices are reasonable before 8 pm, and the Bay view is hard to beat.
  • Marquee: Singapore's largest club. Three floors, a 25-metre Ferris wheel inside, and big-name DJs. Entry is around S$50 with two drinks. Tables start at S$2,000.

Tribe Travel Tip: Don't miss the free light shows nearby. Spectra at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza runs nightly and only takes 15 minutes. Arrive early and grab a spot on the steps.

4. Orchard Road

image.pngMost tourists know Orchard Road as a shopping street. What they miss is what Orchard becomes after the shops close. A quiet strip of hotel bars and speakeasies that represent some of the most serious Singapore nightlife you'll find anywhere in the city

Where to go:

  • Manhattan Bar: A 1920s-style speakeasy with a proper cocktail menu and bartenders who know what they're doing.
  • 28 Hong Kong Street: Hidden entrance, prohibition-era feel, once ranked the 2nd best bar in Asia. Not easy to stumble into, but worth seeking out.

5. Sentosa Island

ImageSentosa is Singapore's resort island. Its nightlife feels exactly like relaxed, beachy, and unhurried. It won't match Clarke Quay for energy or variety, but if you want your evening to feel like a proper holiday, this is the right call.

Where to go:

  • Tanjong Beach Club: Open-air pool, DJ sets, and cocktails as the sun goes down. Beach on one side, palm trees on the other.
  • Ola Beach Club: Same energy, slightly more laid-back.

6. Chinatown

Most people don't think of Chinatown as a Singapore nightlife destination. That's what makes it good. After 9 pm, a local crowd fills its rooftop bars and craft beer spots, people who stopped going to Clarke Quay years ago. If you want to drink somewhere that doesn't feel put together for tourists, wander into Chinatown after dark.

Before You Go

Getting around

MRT runs till midnight on weekdays, 2 am on weekends. Grab covers the rest.

Drinks budget

Standard drinks cost $18 to 25. Plan your evening around happy hours (4 to 8 pm).

Dress code

Rooftop bars and clubs have them. Check ahead.

Best nights

Thu to Sat are busiest. Wednesday for ladies' nights. Sun to Mon are quiet.

Safety

Very safe. Well-lit, reliable transport, comfortable for solo travellers.

The Bottom Line

Singapore's nightlife has an answer for every kind of evening, whether that's dancing at Zouk till 4am, watching the city glow from a rooftop, or nursing a craft beer in a quiet shophouse. Pick your area, time your happy hours, and let the city do the rest.
